New Exhibition - Fylingdales Group at Pannett Art Gallery in Whitby

I’m excited to announce that I am an Invited Artist to The Fylingdales Group of Artists for their 91st Annual Exhibition starting 19th September 2023 at the Pannett Gallery in Whitby.

I have been sketching throughout the summer months, sometimes just out to and from work visits and taking the time to enjoy the early morning sunrises and the late afternoon changing light.

Its nice to work outdoors and takes a bit of for thought and organisation of materials

I like to have a good selection of different types of media so I can mix and make marks to depict the changing weather and atmosphere I experience in this wonderful countryside.

She has initially concentrated on printmaking and watercolour painting and is now concentrating oil and wax medium. Her work has been exhibited at Harlow Carr, Scarborough Art Gallery and several local Art societies.

Now finally returning to her lifelong passion of creating atmospheric landscapes, sketching and painting plein air. Maria’s style is expressive and full of texture. Her landscapes capture a moody depiction of North Yorkshire farms, buildings, and landscapes.

Her collection of work extends to producing artwork in the form of etchings, collographs and watercolour mediums as well as oil and wax.

Maria says:

"My artistic vocabulary and vision has emerged and developed in recent years after a lifetime of sketching and watercolour painting. I now translate landscapes and rural life into an interesting visual language of ruralism painting. Bringing colour, tone and mark making together as my style especially now in the medium of oil and wax.

The North Yorkshire Moors is a constant inspiration for me, every time I stop to make drawings and sketches, I see everyday views in a new light. Looking at the countryside fascinates me returning to my studio high above the picturesque Esk Valley, to create the entire scene, unifying the experience and feelings of the place into finished atmospheric painting."
